Are Not Ashamed
2 Timothy 2:15
Welcome to the AWANA ministry at Brooks Bethel Baptist Church. We are excited about the potential of ministering to your child. AWANA is a Christian club that teaches Biblical truths with an emphasis on scripture memorization. The goal of AWANA is to reach boys and girls with the Gospel of Christ and train them to serve Him. AWANA reaches this goal through a very structured and creative program, and makes it fun for those involved.
We meet on Wednesday evenings from 6:00–7:45pm during the school year. Check-in time is 5:45pm. Our inclement weather policy echoes that of the public schools. If school is canceled or dismissed early due to inclement weather, AWANA will be dismissed likewise. Should questions arise regarding inclement weather, you may call our church office to check our schedule of services.
When your child first begins in each club, he/she will receive an entrance booklet. This is the first step in AWANA achievement. Please help your child complete this booklet in the next two to three weeks. After completing the entrance booklet, your child is eligible to earn more awards as a member of his or her AWANA Club. We want to work with you in providing balanced physical, social, mental, and spiritual activities for your child.
We plan to have a full slate of additional AWANA activities as well. Some of these will include an AWANA Grand Prix, Sparks-A-Rama, AWANA Games, and Bible Quizzes as well as other opportunities. We invite you as parents to take an active role in our AWANA program by working with your child as he/she studies the handbook lessons. We will plan a special “Parents Night” for you to come and be a part of the club with your child, but in the meantime feel free to stop in and see what your child is doing at anytime.
If you have any questions about AWANA at Brooks Bethel Baptist Church, feel free to contact our Commander and Youth Pastor, Bro. Buddy Fowler at (870) 917-9592.
We look forward to seeing your child grow with us in AWANA!
AWANA Standards
1. Doors open to clubbers at 5:45 p.m. Clubbers should hang up their coats, deposit handbooks and Bibles in their handbook containers, and report directly to the game floor for Flag Ceremony. Club starts promptly at 6:00 p.m. and ends promptly at 7:45 p.m.
2. Respectful language is always expected before, during, and after club.
3. Care and respect should be shown for church property.
4. Pushing, shoving, roughhousing are not allowed.
5. Running is allowed only on the Game Circle during certain games.
6. Leader supervision is required for clubbers to enter the church sanctuary.
7. Chewing gum should be left at home and not brought to club.
8. After every activity, the Commander, Director, or leader in charge will begin counting from one to five. By the time number five is reached, each clubber is expected to be waiting quietly for instructions for the next activity. In Awana, leaders and clubbers are taught to respect the “five-count.”
9. Commanders and Directors utilize the “three-count” for individuals not following club behavior standards. If a clubber receives three warnings in one meeting, he or she will be sent home for the night. Clubbers who’ve received a “three-count” and are sent home may return to club in the future if they agree to abide by club rules. The Commander will determine whether the clubber will serve a suspension from club. Clubbers showing disruptive behavior will be taken home from club by two or more leaders.
10. Uniforms and handbooks may be purchased when clubbers have completed their entrance booklet. Upon receiving the uniform, the clubber should wear it to every regular Awana meeting. Replacement uniforms and handbooks are available for a fee.
11. Students should adhere to the Awana dress code. For safety purposes students are required to wear long pants and tennis shoes to each club meeting. Uniforms should be worn neatly. For boys, this includes shirts being tucked in at all times.
12. Awards are presented only to clubbers who are in uniform and adhering to the dress code.
13. Sections must be passed by clubbers in one session. A maximum of two helps per section is allowed.
14. Students should always address Awana workers respectfully – Mr., Mrs., or Miss.
15. Awana clubbers are encouraged to regularly attend club and Sunday School. They will receive awards for attendance.
16. All clubbers are expected to participate in Game Time unless they have a written note with an excuse from their parent. All written excuses should be valid. Some children look for excuses to not participate, but find that they enjoy Game Time once they give it a chance.
Each clubber is asked to bring 50 cents for dues per week.
These dues are used to purchase supplies and treats for each club.
